Jewelry Care Guide
A little care goes a long way. Every Smonu piece is made to be worn and loved — and with a few simple habits, it will stay beautiful for years.
The Golden Rule: Put Your Jewelry On Last
The simplest thing you can do for any piece of jewelry — regardless of material — is to put it on last. After perfume, lotion, sunscreen, and hair spray have dried. Before you walk out the door.
This one habit alone will extend the life of every piece in your collection.
Caring for Your Moissanite
How to clean moissanite
1. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water
2. Soak the piece for 5–10 minutes
3. Gently brush around the stone and setting with a soft toothbrush
4. Rinse under warm running water
5. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth
Clean your moissanite piece once every 1–2 weeks for maximum sparkle.
What to avoid with moissanite
Harsh chemicals, bleach, and abrasive cleaners. Ultrasonic cleaners (safe for the stone, but can loosen settings over time). Touching the stone with your fingers more than necessary — oils from skin are the #1 cause of a dull-looking moissanite.
Caring for Sterling Silver (S925)
How to clean sterling silver
Use the polishing cloth included with your Smonu piece — a quick buff is usually all you need. For a deeper clean: warm water + mild dish soap + a soft toothbrush, then rinse and dry thoroughly. For stubborn tarnish: a dedicated silver polishing cream works well.
How to prevent tarnish
Store it dry. After wearing, wipe the piece gently with a soft cloth before putting it away. Store it sealed. Use the pouch or dust bag that came with your piece. Keep it away from: chlorine, salt water, hot springs, household cleaners, rubber bands (sulfur accelerates tarnish).
Tarnish is not covered under warranty — it's a natural property of silver, not a defect. With regular wear and simple care, most pieces develop very little tarnish.
Caring for 18K Gold-Plated Pieces
How to clean gold-plated pieces
Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth after each wear. For a deeper clean: warm water + mild dish soap, then rinse and pat dry immediately. Do not use a silver polishing cloth on gold-plated pieces — polishing cloths are mildly abrasive and will wear the plating faster.
How to extend the life of your plating
Put it on last — after perfume, lotion, sunscreen have dried. Take it off first — before showering, swimming, exercising, or sleeping. Store it separately — plated pieces rubbing against other jewelry accelerates wear. Avoid contact with: chlorine, salt water, sweat, alcohol-based products.
Plating wear is not covered under warranty. The sterling silver base underneath is fully hypoallergenic — if plating does wear through, the piece is still safe to wear.
Caring for Stainless Steel & Titanium Steel
How to clean stainless steel & titanium steel
Warm water + mild dish soap + a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly. That's it — really. Safe for daily wear, including showers and light exercise. Still best to remove before swimming in chlorinated pools or salt water. Virtually maintenance-free — the closest thing to "wear it and forget it."
Caring for Cubic Zirconia (CZ)
How to clean and maintain CZ stones
Warm water + mild dish soap + a soft toothbrush. Rinse and pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners. Store pieces separately to prevent stones from scratching against each other. Remove before exercising, cleaning, or applying products. Clean regularly — buildup dulls the sparkle faster than actual wear.
CZ stones are a fashion stone — over time, they may develop light surface scratching or mild clouding with heavy wear. This is normal and not covered under warranty.
Storage Tips
✦ Store each piece separately in the pouch, dust bag, or box it came in
✦ Keep pieces dry — wipe off any moisture before storing
✦ Avoid humid environments — a bathroom cabinet is the worst place for jewelry
✦ Anti-tarnish strips placed inside your jewelry box can slow tarnish on silver pieces
